Dental Crowns

At First Lathrop Dental, we provide personalized dental crown treatments to address various dental concerns. Dental crowns are custom-crafted dental restorations that cover the entire visible portion of a tooth to enhance its strength, functionality, and aesthetics.

Common Uses For Dental Crowns

  • Restore teeth weakened by decay, fractures, or large fillings
  • Protect teeth after root canal therapy
  • Improve the appearance of misshapen or discolored teeth
  • Provide support for dental bridges

Types of Dental Crowns

We use only the highest quality materials for our dental crowns, because of their exceptional longevity and biocompatibility. While we strive to offer tooth-colored crowns whenever possible, however the selection of crown material depends on specific case requirements and patient preferences.

Dental Crowns are typically made of:

  • Ceramic or porcelain such as zirconia* or lithium disilicate
  • Porcelain-Fused-to-Metal - provides exceptional strength and natural-looking appearance
  • Metals*, such as gold- or silver-based alloys, titanium, or stainless steel

*Full metal crowns and zirconia crowns are typically reserved for posterior teeth, where aesthetics are less of a concern.

Dental Crown Procedure

Fitting a crown requires at least two visits to our office. Initially, we will remove decay, shape the tooth, and fit it with a temporary crown of either plastic or metal.

On your next visit we will remove the temporary crown, and then fit and adjust the final crown. Finally, we will cement the crown into place, and you will have a new, beautiful looking tooth!

How Long Does a Dental Crown Last?

The longevity of dental crowns depends on the material used and individual care. On average, crowns can last between 10 to 15 years. With proper oral hygiene and regular dental checkups, some crowns may last even longer.

Schedule a consultation today to explore the best restorative options for your smile! We will assess your oral health, discuss treatment options, and provide personalized recommendations to help you achieve a healthy and beautiful smile.
